A cop is forced into retirement. His last case left open and haunting him. Fritz will show you different. Fritz is a police dog.

Taken down some nasty criminals. But an injury while on the job forces him into retirement, his last case left open. I loved Fritz right out of the gate. So brave and de A cop is forced into retirement. So brave and dedicated and he just wants to keep doing his duty. I felt so sad for him when he was forced to retire. But the story shifts quickly as he goes on the hunt to track down the nasty rottweiler that injured him and helped a villain escape. Calling all dogs. This book was a blast.

The investigation leads them on a merry chase and I happily scampered along with them. Feb 25, Nikki Martin rated it really liked it. This book was a cute little story. Nothing earth shaking but it didn't make me want to gouge my eyes out or bore me completely with the author trying to show me how great his writing is. I lost myself for the duration of the story in a fantasy world of talking dogs and other animals Oct 30, Jack rated it it was amazing. A doggie noir story Reads like a noir crime novel, but from the perspective of a police dog. Humorous and a good story. Not for Cat lovers, but no cats were injured in this story.

Good one.

Aug 07, James rated it it was amazing Shelves: recent-literary-fiction. An injury on the job ends up forcing a cop into retirement, but he finds it tough to adjust to the quiet life. Obsessed with his last case, he finds himself returning to his old patrol, brushing aside new friends for a chance at closure—and maybe revenge. Fritz is an alpha cop in the Grand City Police Department, but a run-in with a monstrous Rottweiler has left him with one lame leg and a hasty retirement party.

Instead, he recruits his new backyard-mates—streetwise Ernie, a former stray, and dopey young Nipper—to trot down these mean streets in search of the dog who maimed him. Written by Bobby D. Lux, the book offers a fun, imaginative look into the secret world of dogs. Fritz and his pals take us on a four-legged tour ranging from their cozy, confining backyard to secret dog speakeasies and high-rolling cat races.

His takeaway after filming a public-service announcement with the local police chief is revealing. I had a lot of fun with the cast, although I do wish the strongest female character, Saucy, had gotten an earlier opportunity to roll with the rest of the gang. Lux has a lot of fun with the setting but plays it straight with the plot, even taking into account one questionable decision near the end by a human crook. Hey, who said criminals were smart? Not Fritz. I only hope the promised sequel becomes a reality. I really, really enjoyed 'Dog Duty'! I knew this was a canine caper of sorts and all the main characters are dogs, and I believe the novel also falls under the noir fiction category though I'm not entirely sure since that's not a genre I've ever really explored.

I'll try my best to summarize without revealing too much about the plot. Chapter 1: a chase! Oh, and cats, gambling, and gangsters. When you're reading 'Dog Duty' you can't help but root for our hero, Fritz, and you also can't help but love his two sidekicks, Ernie and Nipper.

The novel is a quick read that's fluidly written with an engaging plot and with characters that have pretty complicated human qualities. I'm happy to include 'Dog Duty' in my reading challenge and I'm really hoping this will become a series. Feb 07, Dena rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy , m-f. Jan 01, MB rated it liked it Shelves: reads , reviewed. This novella was enjoyable.

It was nice to see some of Thierry and Shaw's relationship after the first story. I also appreciated the humor in the story tl help move it along. Feb 21, gremlin rated it liked it. A cute short with a young Thierry searching for a missing cockatrice and then a missing local fae boy. Feb 25, Vannessa added it Shelves: books-reading-challenge , fae-fairy-mostly , kindle-books , urban-fantasy , were-shifters-mostly.

A nice quick read involving Thierry, Shaw and a double case of a missing boy and a missing cockatrice. Throw in a mix of wargs and it was all over in 15 minutes!

Nov 02, Lady rated it it was amazing. Learning The Ropes This series must be read in order. The first book is Dog With A Bone. This is the second book which is currently only located within the Nightshade Anthology. I can't wait to read Heir Of The Dog! This story takes place some time after book one and show a snapshot of life as a rookie Fae Bounty Hunter In Training. It is fun and funny while showcasing the difficulty of the jobs she will have to undertake if Thierry wishes to remain in the Mortal Realm. I really don't want to give Learning The Ropes This series must be read in order.

Sep 21, T. Excellent short story which highlights all the best things in Shaw and Thierry's relationship. Best read by people familiar with the story line, but I could see anyone picking it up and enjoying the difficulties of fire-breathing chickens and surly farmers. A great read.

Nov 01, Larissa rated it liked it. It was not comedy packed, but expect werewolves and half-dragons and a missing kid finding itself. I know!!! Super small review, but you were not expecting much, were you? Jul 19, Amanda rated it really liked it Shelves: , i-own , hailey-edwards. I did not realize that I already had this little snippet when I started reading this series. The author has a really nice way of finishing up a storyline without making it feel too rushed, and it still has just enough action and mystery in there. These characters are the type that I could read a whole lot more of.

Sep 22, Saruuh Kelsey rated it it was amazing Shelves: fae-and-fairy-lore , favorites , read-in , new-adult , paranormal-supernatural , shorts , urban-fantasy , young-adult. I miss these two so much. This story makes me wanna reread the whole series but I'll try to resist optimum word being TRY! My favourite part of this was Jackson Shaw SO not being here for sexist guy's bullshit.

I knew I loved you for a reason, Shaw. Jan 12, Haha rated it liked it. Short, but ok read. I almost like it better than Dog with a Bone.

Sep 20, Ashley Martinez ilovebooksandstuffblog rated it really liked it. Short, fun and entertaining as heck! I really enjoyed this short story and loved how it ended. I wanted more, lots more I'm hoping that the author has used this short story as a prologue to a big chunky novel letting us know just how Kavanah finds retribution! I'll be first in line to buy it. Well done! One person found this helpful. There was a problem loading the comments at the moment.
